Platelet-Rich Fibrin: What it is, and why it matters.
In the aesthetic world for a few years now, and even in the sports medicine or veterinary medicine industry – some people have heard of PRP or Platelet-Rich Plasma. Utilized for its healing properties, PRP showed us a ton of promise in the ability to use a patient’s own blood, prepare it in a certain way, and then re-inject it into tissue to stimulate healing and repair.
There is no outstanding issue with PRP, and some may even argue there is a time and place for it still. However, the second generation of a fully autologous (all your own cells, nothing added) biological additive is what we use at Watts Regenerative Aesthetics & Wellness– Platelet-Rich Fibrin!
PRF has been studied now for a few years and demonstrates incredible superiority in wound healing, tissue regeneration, and collagen stimulation. By drawing a patient or client’s blood in the office, preparing it using a specialized centrifuge, and concentrating platelets along with fibrin cells – it is estimated you get 6-8 times the amount of growth factors concentrated into the plasma. So why should you care as the customer? Because when you get PRF instead of PRP – you are getting more growth factors, improved wound healing/tissue regeneration, and a longer lasting “product” so to speak. PRP requires the addition of anticoagulants which can negatively impact healing by preventing coagulation and fibrin clot formation. By allowing the fibrin cells to remain in the plasma concentrate, you increase the benefits of PRP tenfold.
What does this mean for a patient or client?
